Elbow Pain

can a Sports Chiropractor help?

Elbow pain is most often a result of overuse, strain and stress, or wear and tear. It may also be due to different types of arthritis. Typically, the kind of elbow pain sports chiropractors treat is due to situations where repetitive motions in jobs or hobbies strain muscles, tendons and ligaments in and around the elbow. It may be be a temporary, one time issue or it can be an ongoing problem. In order to provide the correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment, sports chiropractors need to do a thorough history and examination of the elbow and the surrounding areas.

Anatomy of the Elbow Joint

The elbow joint consists of three bones. The humerus (upper arm bone) joins the radius and ulna (the two forearm bones) to create the elbow joint. These bones allow your arm to bend, twist and move in many different ways which allows you to perform multiple tasks. Your elbow joint is multifunctional and enables you to do everything from throwing or picking up objects, holding a baby, walking on your hands and so much more.

Connecting your humerus, ulna and radius together are several muscles and ligaments. Even the slightest bit of extra pressure or the wrong position can irritate these muscles and ligaments leading to elbow pain. Left untreated, elbow pain can lead to chronic conditions and even instability. The sports chiropractors at Premier Sports and Spine Center are trained to give you the correct diagnosis and treatment to help patients return to activity quickly and safely.
