running injuries
A single stride is not very stressful to the runner’s body, but when that stride is repeated thousands of times it can cause repetitive trauma and damage to muscles, ligaments or bones very slowly, over time.
This damage builds up in the body causing a breakdown of normal tissue and a build-up of scar tissue leading to a repetitive injury for many runners.
These overuse injuries do not necessarily mean that an athlete is running too many miles. More often, these injuries are caused by overuse of a specific part of the body or incorrect form.
Common running injuries include:
- Plantar fasciitis/fasciosis
- Stress fractures
- Runner’s knee
- Shin splints
- Achilles tendinitis/tendinopathy
- Hamstring tendinitis/tendinopathy
- Hip pain
- IT band injuries
- Low back pain
