ACtive release technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue massage technique.
This movement-based, deep massage treats pain and injury in soft tissues: muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
As sports chiropractic physicians who specialize in Active Release Technique, we have advanced training in how to feel the soft tissues for damage. We also specialize in identifying the texture, movement, and tension relationship of the tissues to the surrounding structures.
Benefits of Active Release Technique:
- Breaks up scar tissues and adhesions formed within the tissue
- Relaxes muscles that are tight or spasmed
- Alleviates overuse injuries and repetitive strain and stress injuries

How does ART massage work?
Active Release Technique (ART) involves moving the soft tissue through its full range of motion while tension is applied and maintained. This forces shortened tissues to return to their normal length faster and more efficiently than stretching.
ART also relaxes muscles that are tight or spasmed and can break up scar tissue and adhesions that have formed within the tissue. The technique provides symptomatic relief and addresses physiologic changes in the tissue, allowing the patient to more efficiently strengthen the injured area and prevent recurrence of pain and injury.
ART has a 90% improvement rate compared with other therapy techniques. A chiropractor who uses ART assesses the affected muscle, its texture, movement and tightness, as well as the nerves, ligaments, tendons and fascia around it. The sports chiropractic physician places a precise tension on the problematic area while the patient moves the affected limb, relieving the pain.
Who can benefit from Active Release Technique?
Injured athletes are not the only ones who can benefit from ART. Anyone who experiences neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, and other muscle pains may benefit from this therapy.
For example, a person who sits in front of a computer and clicks a mouse 400 times a day or a person who has neck pain from looking down at a phone or device can find immense relief in an ART session.
