Knee pain
The complex joint of the knee becomes stressed when executing most athletic movements, such as stopping, starting, jumping, landing, cutting, and pivoting.
Knee pain can build over time or it can be due to a single acute injury.
Several muscles cross the knee from both the hip and the leg. This crisscrossing of muscles creates increased strain and stress during athletic exertion. Knees can also be strained or injured during everyday movement such as walking, ascending and descending stairs, squatting and twisting.
Knee pain may be caused by:
- Lower back pain
- Patellar tendinitis
- IT band syndrome
- Meniscus damage
- MCL sprain
- ACL injury
- Pes anserine issues
- Baker’s cyst
- Arthritis
- Chondromalacia
- Osteochondral injuries
- Quadriceps tendinitis
- Bursitis

How do sports chiropractors treat knee pain?
As with any condition, the most important step is to evaluate the issue and correctly diagnose the problem. The sports chiropractors at Premier Sports & Spine take the time necessary to fully evaluate the injured knee and form a treatment plan to get you out of pain and improve your functional capacity.
With knee pain, it is important to rule out problems in the hip, low back, ankle and foot when determining the cause of the pain. Once the cause of the injury is determined, our sports chiropractors will discuss the most effective therapy strategy to alleviate your pain.
